In Illinois, as in most states, drivers are required to have a minimum amount of insurance while they operate a car, truck or other motor vehicle. Unfortunately, two problems often arise in Illinois car accident cases: (1) the negligent driver is "uninsured" — meaning he or she does not have any auto insurance coverage; or (2) the negligent driver is "underinsured" — meaning he or she only has minimal auto policy coverage, e.g., $20,000.
