Passen Law Group represented a man who was driving past a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus, when the bus abruptly pulled out and struck our driver’s car. By all accounts, it was a low-speed impact. Nevertheless, our client — who had pre-existing degeneration of his cervical spine — suffered a substantial injury to his cervical spine, requiring cervical fusion surgery.
The CTA denied liability and denied that this low-speed collision could have caused our client’s neck injuries. The CTA’s highest offer to settle the case was $25,000.
Matthew Passen of Passen Law Group took our client’s case to trial, and told the compelling story of how this CTA crash was negligently caused by the CTA and its bus driver, and how trauma from the crash resulted in a permanent cervical spine injury requiring major surgery.
A 12-person unanimous jury returned a verdict in favor of our client for $655,000. Our client and his family felt vindicated.
